Gyms: why you no go green?

For some time I’ve been wondering why gyms don’t generate energy from their equipment.

It seems like a no-brainer. It would be relatively trivial to wire treadmills, bikes, rowing machines and even the circuit training machines to generators. The energy could be used to power the lights, drink machines, or even back into powering some of machines. Any excess power could be stored or sold to the grid. Such a gym should be able to claim any government green energy benefits/subsidies, not much greener than people power.

It’s a win/win/win (the third win has to do with schemes to curb population obesity — I’ll chat about that another time), so why haven’t I seen any gyms doing this yet? Surely I’m not the only one who’s thought of it.

Until next time…

Insight and longevity.
