The Coursera Experience, 3 months in.

I started at the end of August, and since then I’ve taken, or am taking, nine Coursera courses. To date, I’ve finished three:

  • Learning to Program, University of Toronto
  • Foundations of Virtual Instruction, UofC Irvine
  • Creativity, Innovation and Change, Pennsylvania State University

Three more are scheduled to finish this month, although I’ll be starting one more during that time (and one more in December).

Overwhelming the experience has been positive. The instructors of most courses put considerable effort into making them informative and interesting and I’ve found them very enjoyable to take. To date there is little in the way of meaningful accredation involved and I’m taking the courses mostly for personal education, although there are some indications this might change.

Anyway, if you’re interested in learning about many diverse and interesting subjects (for free!), then I highly recommend trying Coursera. And if you do, or if you are already taking some Coursera courses, I’d love to hear about your experiences, so leave a comment.
